A bit of a family edition of Trainspotting, I would say. Not bad and
surely very homely, but Complicity was much better, for me at least. The
Crow Road needs three quarters of the book to get to something you're
really keen on and even then it's just interesting. Well, surely worth a
read, especially when you're a Scot or interested in family problems.
Which we all are, I'm sure. Still.

Very much so. Crow Road meets Walking on Glass meets The Business.
Pretty well crafted, and more enjoyable for me than either The Biz or
Dead Air, but short on "Oh, wow!" moments.
The final surprise was, er, unsurprising. Even so, it represents a
partial return to form (to me, at least).

Sorry, I was rather joking - I'm quite familiar with almost all of
Banks' work. Surprised)
I prefer The Crow Road to Complicity. In fact, it's one of my
favourite mainstream IB novels (behind The Bridge and The Wasp
Factory).
