My other half is racking her brains trying to remember the author and
title of a science fiction work. All she remembers is the basic plot.
When she started to relate it, I thought it was one of PKD's short
stories, but I don't think it is.

I'm hoping that someone here will have read it, and can tell us what it
is...

Parents of a boy are very nervous. He has to sit an IQ test. He gets an
IQ score of over 100, and has to be terminated.

Any ideas?

Thanks for the ng address - I'll be adding it to my subscriptions (I'm
sure I searched for "sf", must have missed it).

A little research does go a long way - found out that it was made into an
episode of the Twilight Zone in the eighties. My other half remembers it
being read to them at an end-of-term school assembly (wierd school!), and
wanted a copy to read. I tracked down a book or two with the story
included - odd thing is that she has an old copy at her parent's house
and never even knew it!

Interesting to note that it is comtemporary with many of PKD's short
stories - maybe I might try and find some more by the same author. I
think the 40's and 50's is probably "my era" for SF short stories (I was
an Asimov addict as a teenager, even though the stories I was reading
were already over a quarter of a century old).

Harrison Bergeron by Vonnegut. There was a film made of it as
well. Not too bad of a rendition, I thought. The lad that plays Sam
Gamgee in LOTR plays Harrison in the film.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

D'oh, my mistake. Sorry about the misinformation. I guess I
should've read all new headers before replying. I do the same think
with my mouth a lot of the time, unfortunately. Cheers.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
