Definitely! Around here this may ALMOST seem heretical, but I like
Obsidian better than Valdemar in some ways. The Joust series is
excellent in its own way as well.

I, on the other hand, found the first book nearly unreadable, the second
completely so, and never bought the third. They were just too... dark.
Too filled with inevitable disaster. I read to escape depression, not
to wallow in it.

I don't think it's heretical. After all, Mummy Az doesn't like the
Velgarth stuff at all. Smile

I wouldn't say that I like the Obsidian stuff more than ALL of the
Velgarth series, but I certainly like them more than some of them. I'm
so glad that she and James Mallory are going to write another series in
that universe.

To be fair to Melanie Rawn, she had some major problems in those 10
years, incluidng, IIRC, a breakdown.

But, yeah, I want Exiles #3 too!

IMHO The Owl books, like "Silver Gryphon", are aimed at children.
I found them a deep disappointment after the Storm series.

Have you seen Exile's Honour and Exile's Valour? They are excellent.

Yes -- they are dark.
But the ending was very satisfactory.
And I found them *much* more readable than LOTR.

Save that Aphrael knows that Other People *have* purchased and
read "When Darkness Falls". At least, with "The Capital's
Tower", you don't have the feeling that anyone else is one up
on you. Every fan is suffering all together.

When Darkness Falls came out 7-8 months ago -- still not made
it across the ocean? Daaaannnggggg.

LOL I hadn't seen that on the FAQ yet or Amazon, but a few months back,
when the latest news of her contracts with DAW were announced in some
trade journal or other, it was mentioned there. Same Universe, set
either hundreds of years before or after the Obsidian trilogy (Don't
remember and too lazy to google it) like LHM is to Arrows.

Okay, I got over laziness, and the only mention I could find was from
August 2005. LOL And it didn't even say all that I remembered, but you
know how hard it is to search things via google groups sometimes. *G*

Anyway, I just went to mercedeslackey.com, and it also lists _Welcome,
New Students Arcanium 101_ and _Gwenhwyfar, the White Phantom_ (new
title of _The White Apparition_ seems likely) as scheduled for 2007. So
a step up from just "unknown" Smile It also specifically states that
Stoned Souls is "not currently scheduled for Production" while Queen of
Air and Darkness and Elvenbred are still "date unknown" so it sounds
like it's been definitely killed, not just postponed indefinitely.
