That's your perception, and it's not an accurate one. Often the two
markets get things at different times as a function of each publisher's
view of when the best time to publish is. The Harry Potter stuff, for
example, is the same date if possible (Australia and the UK export
markets get it a few days later, sometimes). Many British authors are
published in the UK first.
In my case it's simple. Avon thinks it's better to bring out my new
book in the spring and HarperCollins thinks it's better to bring it out
in the fall.
