Shortly after his return to Earth from the Panell investigation, he
resigned from the police and joined Ben's expedition to colonize what
became known as Baleyworld.

  If I'm not mistaken it was rather some time between his return to
Earth and his setting off for Baleyworld. A scene from this voyage comes
up in ``Robots and Empire.''

Good point. His knowledge would have been invaluable in planning the
expedition, and it would have been logical for him to be closely
involved with it.
