I've heard that Asimov's popular science work, "Understanding Physics"
is a really great introduction to physics. But in searching for it on
Amazon, I find there are numerous volumes with diverse chapter
headings. Can anyone tell me how many books there in this series, and
if there is a collected edition that includes all of them? Were
additional volumes written much later than the first ones?

Thanks for any response,
- Tue Sorensen

There were 3 volumes in the original edition published in 1966:
Volume 1: Motion, Sound, and Heat
Volume 2: Light, Magnetism, and Electricitry
Volume 3: The Electron, Proton, and Neutron

Over the years, there were numerous paperback editions, as well as
omnibus editions titled _Understanding Physics_ and _The History of
Physics_. The entire work was written from 1963 to 1964.

I agree, a great introduction. Having read all his science books, I can
say that in general his stuff is good. Of course, things in the third
volume of "Understanding Physics" will be dated by now, but that
shouldn't matter if reading it as an introduction.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

The series has been reissued in one volume for $9.98 US.

WQ&isbn=0880292512&itm=1

I bought it and can confirm was has been said - it's a bit dated but fine
for an introduction.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
