So I was browsing through the library and picked up a copy of
the Good Doctor's "The Exploding Suns: The Secrets of the Supernovas."
Leafing through it, I came across this fascinating passage:

... Second, the star that became SN 1993J wasn't white.
It wasn't red. It wasn't blue. It flared *orange*!

Third, SN 1993J seemed to display an almost schizophrenic
  personality.

And that's when the jolt hit me.

  Alas, I hadn't stumbled onto the nigh-mythical multi-universal
library and reading stuff from the timeline where Asimov lived through
the nineties; it turned out the book was given an updated edition, with
a new chapter by Dr. William Gutsch. Still, it's hard to get a thrill
quiet like that, even when reading up on supernovas.

I don't recall Hari Seldon ever observing supernovae.
