Archived from groups: alt>publish>books (more info?)

Hi. I'm constructing a book on How to Market FICTION and would very
much like to invite publishers to give their take on how to do this
very difficult task. I'd prefer more specific rather than general
("Stay positive!") advice, or stories on how You did it, plus any
links or contact info that is of value. Around 1500 words; longer or a
little shorter is fine. You will each get your own chapter and byline.
Please give me an idea of the theme you'll be going with first, just
to make sure not too many things are repeated.

You'll receive $10 (I know, but it pays for the pizza),
acknowledgement within the book, plus a copy of the book, and even a
half page ad in the back of the book for your "how to" book, if you
like. Please email your ideas to books.DeleteThis@benohmart.com. Final deadline
is Sept. 15th, but of course the sooner you send something in, the
sooner you'll secure a place in the book. Thanks.

A few comments. First, don't expect those who know their stuff to
contribute chapters to your book for $10 plus an ad. The big leaguers
get a lot more than that. Even an hour of consultation time will cost
e.g., $80. You will get a few eager newbies who know less than you
do.

Second, the line saying :"The sooner you send something the sooner you
will secure a place in the book" is unintentionally funny. I suspect
you will not be inundated with quality work.

If you want to write a book on how to market fiction I suggest you
read some books on my short list

under the heading of marketing. Better, develop some experience
yourself that you can point to and describe.
