Out of all of King's short stories that haven't been filmed yet, which one
would make the best movie?

My pick: The Mist.

Here there be Tygers.

But not a film. Just a ten minute, slowwwwwwwly drawn out representation.
It is so simple and eloquently laid out that it could be just an incredible
work of art.

As for an actual *movie* movie? Hmmmmm......I bet that one at the end of
Skeleton Crew could be an amazing dramatic film. What's it called? The
stretch? The......arg, it's definitely, "the"...damn me for relying on my
father's books, which are with him.

I saw about three in Everything's Eventual that actually seem like they were
born as screenplays. But I also don;t have that book handy!

P.S. look ma, no top-post! Razz Amazing how 3 years after posting to NG's
I find out about this little croquet of etiquette.

That'd be a good one, though technically I think The Mist is a novella.

I think King's gimmick short stories would be tough to make into
feature films. Like Dorians Cadillac. The whole story centers around
the car trap. That might make an interesting half hour but I'm not
sure you could stretch it into a movie. It's like Straw Dogs. There is
a kick butt battle scene at the end with a pretty gruesome bear trap,
but before that is an hour and half of plodding. I think the Mangler
was bit of a gimmick story. The most interesting part was when the
machine went nuts. Chattering Teeth is another.

I think Shawshank did so well because the story had alot of potential
to explore different areas that King didn't cover. I.E. like Red's
discussion with the parole board about rehabilitation. Now something
like Jerusalem's Lot ( I think thats the one with the two old guys in
the vampire town) has all kinds of room to expand into a bigger story.
I recently saw Maximum Overdrive, and the first half hour was great.
Then it sort of fell apart for me. Trucks is still one of my favorite
King stories that I still don't think anyone has done justice too in a
movie. How anyone can goof a flick about killer bulldozers is beyond
me.

The part in Max Overdrive with the angry soda machine shooting soda
cans was great.

There were plans underway to do Dolan's Cadillac as a feature length
movie with Kevin Bacon and Sylvester Stallone, but it has never gotten
off the ground. Chattery Teeth has been done as a 30-minute TV episode.
