Hi folks:

In 1992, my mom (who dislikes scifi/fantasy reading so she always
claimed) and I took a train from Chicago to DC to meet Katherine at
the convention. I had to practically drag mom there cause I didn't
want to go alone but after reading several Deryni novels, I
desparately wanted to meet Katherine. I had never attended a
convention before that one.

That was the year "King Javen's Year" was published. I met Katherine,
she autographed the book and I had a couple photos taken with
Katherine.

Last night, mom was all excited about a book she was reading. She
started telling me a bit about the story and when she mentioned the
name of the main character (Adam Sinclair), I knew right away that she
was reading one of Katherine's "The Adept" series books. Turned out
to be "Dagger Magic."

When I told her that she had met the author of that book, she gave me
one of her famous, I-think-you're-not-telling-me-the- truth looks (mom
is 84 and her memory is well....). I brought out KJYear, showed her
the autograph, showed her the photo of Katherine on the jacket back
fold, and then pointed to Katherine's name on the cover of both
books.

She was amazed because she said she was enjoying the book so much and
wanted the next one in the series (I loaned it to her) and I was
tickled because she said she would never read scifi/fantasy. Little
did she know how easily Katherine's writing hooks the reader.

Twas a happy ending for both of us. Now if only I can get her hooked
on the Deryni Chronicles. <g>

Congrats on gaining KK another fan. You'll just have to buy the Deryni
Chronicles and then she'll have to read them and the rest will be
history!
