Twice he [whoever did the geocities web site, not joe RemoveThis @jolomo.net]
did it.
Granted, I give credibility to Gordon Van Gelder's altruism in
this matter [from joe's post, reading F&SF {along with a lot of
other mags, SF and otherwise, and books} went by the boards after
a stealth heart attack/stroke a few years back], but there are a
*lot* of people/groups lately pushing their
friends/associates/members/whatever to write the USPS and ask for
so-and-so, prominent for doing miracles in his/her chosen field
of such-and-such, to be recognized by the issue of a stamp.
e.g., for the Marines, from which I retired some twenty-mumble
years ago, Chesty Puller [among others] has been the subject of
such a campaign for a while, noted by the presence of letters
every so often in Marine Corps Gazette and Leatherneck magazines.
I have come across at least a dozen other similar campaigns in
recent months from one group or another for one person or
another.
Maybe stamp collectors want to increase the raw material
selection for future generations to collect? Hmmm. Must hie
myself over to alt.conspiracy and tell them I've found another
one.
