In Uncanny X Men 445, I believe, where Bishop, Cannonball, and Marvel Girl
face The Fury, I noticed that Alan Davis drew Rachel flying towrds the Fury
carrying a huge stalactite in her hands, ready to impale him.
What I'm curious about is, was Rachel telekinetically carrying the stone
while heading towards him, or was she using raw, physical strength? I mean,
if she's that strong, then she's capable of doing other things with her
prowess.
Just a minor observation! >> Stay informed about: How strong is Marvel Girl? |

She has no physical powers that we've ever seen before, only psionic, so any
beyond-human-limit weights to be carried can fairly safely be assumed to be
being lifted with TK.
Of course, this IS a Claremont title, and she IS a female, so she might
suddenly develop any number of odd powers for no real reason...<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How strong is Marvel Girl? |

Well, if she's flying, she's already using telekinesis to support its
weight. You'd think it would be easier just to use TK to throw the damn
thing at the Fury, if that was what she had in mind, but then that would
involve common sense, and Claremont's psychics have a bad habit of
getting drawn into pointless close-range fighting so that their
opponents can thwack them.

Not that I recall, it's possible to form telekinetic body armour I suppose
(Like Unusciocne or whatever her name is from the Acolytes), but that's not
actually altering the baseline strength of the individual, it's still the
TK, not muscles, doing the work.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How strong is Marvel Girl? |

Absolutely. This was established way back in the seventies.
Jean once explicitly stated that she used it to lighten the load on
some heavy boxes she had purchased.
It is very versatile ability. The user can pretty much create a force in
any shape from any angle on any object so I can see no reason why it
souldn't be.

Yeah, that's exactly what was going through my mnd, why rachel just didn't
use TK to shoot the stalactite at the Fury.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How strong is Marvel Girl? |

So, by definition, she's _not_ augmenting her strength in that instance,
she's reducing the weight of the object she's carrying. Presumably anyone
else could pick up the objects she was reducing the weight of, regardless of
whether they were telekinetics or not.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: How strong is Marvel Girl? |

Yes. The issue of X-Man where Nate meets up with Rogue has him doing just that,
and bragging to the pretty girl with big breasts about doing it afterwards.

If I recall from the old "DC vs Marvel", the cloned Superboy's super
strength was actually "tactile telekinesis"

Yes that's partially true. It is, however, easier to think of it as if she
augmented her own strength. She was putting an additional force from
below on the object to make it easier to lift for her. Since she can
direct that force with the speed of thought she can use it to appear
stronger in pretty much any situation. She could help someone else lift
something but she wouldn't really make the object lighter, she would just
be helping that person carry.
Perhaps I'm overexplaining?

Perhaps it works better in close proximity to her body, like Psylockes mento
knife?

It seems that it has been written in the past. In an issue of Psi-Force
(from the New Universe line of comics way back when), the TK of the group
used her power in that way when fighting a Russian paranormal. The issue
was written by Fab so maybe he or others with better memories than mine can
give more detail.
