High praise for Slaughterhouse Five
-------
"Of the 1971 film version of Slaughterhouse Five , directed by George Roy
Hill and starring Michael Sacks as Billy Pilgrim, Vonnegut modestly says:
"Oh, it's a masterpiece. It's better than the book."

"Other film versions-including Happy Birthday, Wanda June, Breakfast of
Champions , and most notably, Slapstick of Another Kind with Jerry Lewis
and Madeline Kahn-have been box-office flops that were critically
panned."

Yes, although he's always said he loved it. Interesting that there was no
mention of Mother Night, which I think was also excellent.

Well thanks Andre that is good to know. I have managed to will myself to
like BOC, at least for the fine acting by Bruce Willis and Glenne Headly.
And because Nick Nolte yells "Maui!"<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

By the way, there's supposed to be a longer version of this interview
appearing in the August issue of Lehigh's Alumni Bulletin.
