Somebody has a lock of Jack London's hair on eBay. I wonder how many
authors left behind locks of their hair and how much is something like
that worth?

Stuff like that is worth simply what someone is willing to pay for it!
I don't think you can establish an objective, intrinsic worth, the price
will just be driven by supply and demand.
