I've been racking my brain to recall a term Vonnegut used-- in Cat's
Cradle if I'm not mistaken (and I may be). The word was supposed to
refer to a group of persons who are destined to weave in and out of one
anothers lives (as well as past and future lives), repeatedly
interacting in both positive and negative ways.

Can anyone help me with what this word was tha Vonnegut used, and the
reference? Thanks!

"Karass"

See Cat's Cradle (p. 14, lines 1-6)
"Bokononists believe that humanity is organized into teams, teams that
do God's Will without ever discovering what they are doing. Such a team
is called a karass by Bokonon, and the instrument, the kan-kan, that
brought me into my own particular karass was the book I never finished,
the book to be called The Day the World Ended."

Hey Marc,

Tell me about this "Vonnegut Encyclopedia" please...
And maybe you can answer this:
In which books did KV mention the fact that his sister used to say "If
there is a God, He sure hates people"? I know he mentioned it in more
than one book but I can't seem to find these quotes.

You can look up the book at www.greenwood.com or on Amazon. As for the
quote, it sure sounds like something Kurt would have attributed to his
sister but I have no recollection of it specifically. It could be one
of those Vonnegut legends like the MIT speech people thought he
delivered a few years back. If the quote is authentic, I would start
looking in Palm Sunday; Fates Worse Than Death; Wampters, Foma &
Granfalloons; or introductory matter to Slapstick.

Hi Marc, I'll take a look at that web site.

No, it's no myth.

For one, I found it in "Timequake" (p. 56 I think it was) but I am
certain this is not the first time Vonnegut told us of his sister
having said this. I am sure it must be in one of the
autobiographical non-fiction works above, but I've still not found it
there yet. Maybe Fates Worse Than Death?
