It's SO good. It's not a horror novel at all. It's a fantasy, set in
another world that mirrors ours but is full of contradictions. It's a
western fantasy sci-fi book.

It's definately a stephen king novel in that he develops his
characters very much the same way, but most definately NOT a king
novel in the stereotypical blood guts spooky freak out way.

Just try the first book, if you don't like it, you don't have to
finish the rest of them Smile

I enjoy Eco's books on the story level but I find I have to wait for other
authors to interpret his 'message'.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

Eco has many obscure and erudite references tucked away in his stories.

I'm sure I've seen a book on Amazon called something like 'The Key to the
Name of the Rose' where all his references are expanded on and their
significance explained.<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->

oh! I see what you mean.
I usually do the research myself on any of the really obscure stuff.
Or, more likely, the book itself will spark further interest and I'll end up
reading more and more books about the same topic/topics.
Happened most notably with Foucault's Pendulum.

As for his other books (and the many about him and his work in the field), I
stay well away from all the semiotics
stuff. Fiction only, please.

btw, did you read/like Baudolino?<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ -->
