you're so desperate to get back to the Gwenydd universe that you glue
a new spine on your copy of High Deryni so you can have something to
read.... Wink

Considering I got this book over 30 years ago, it's no wonder the
thing fell apart after repeated readings....!

I'm sure that there are others in the same boat. When's the next book
from Katherine coming out?

Hi Elaine and welcome,

Katherine's presently at work on book two of the Childe Morgan trilogy.
Probable release date second half of 2006. This October, a trade
paperback copy of the Codex Derynianus by Katherine Kurtz and Rob
Reginald will be available for purchase through Amazon. In December,
Deryni Checkmate will be re-released in a slightly expanded new
edition. (Katherine says there will be a new first chapter, or at least
a new early chapter bridging the time gap between the end of _Deryni
Rising_ and the original beginning of _Deryni Checkmate_.

If you did not already know about it, Book One of the Childe Morgan
trilogy, _In the King's Service_ was released in 2003. Also if you
didn't know about it, there is a Deryni/Katherine Kurtz Website at
www.deryni.net. It is in sore need of updating at the moment, but if
you've never been there before, you'll still find it interesting. =o)

If you have a yen to write fan-fiction, we have no objections. =o)
This is a pretty friendly and supportive group, and we too, are
experiencing withdrawal symptoms.

Melissa

Actually, it was re-reading In the King's Service that got me started
on re-reading the Kelson series. Wink I'm just impatient for more.

And I have started a fan fic, just figure I should finish it before I
start to post anything. Of course, it's gone on longer than I
thought. Perhaps novella length?

Wink

Thanks for the welcome. I've been here in the past, but didn't post
as much then.

Heh. Sounds familiar Smile

Personally, I would love to have more fan fiction out there; I think
I've read everything posted on the web. Just promise not to write a
really good engrossing story and then get really busy, leaving us
hanging for a couple years.

Well, there are always Deryni Archives the Zines, issues 1-19. Smile

And before anyone asks, I have no new news on issue 20. I'M SORRY!!!!

Deryni Archives the Zine
Issue 19

At 110 pages, Issue 19 is now ready to come to your home for your
reading pleasure!

Zine cost is $19.10 --in REPRINTS ($19.10 + $3.95 = $25.05)
Postage choices (US only– please email for outside of the US):
Express Mail (overnight) $17.85 Priority Mail/First Class (2 days) $3.95

Issue 19 has the features you’ve come to expect: “Progress
Report” by Katherine Kurtz, “Editorial” by Julianne Toomey-Kautz,
“Deryni Ink: Letters of Comment,” and “Our Contributors. ” This issue
also includes “Spring Fling in Rhemuth Logic Puzzle” by Kiri, ordering
information for the Deryni wall map by Ann Dupuis of Grey Ghost
Games/FUDGE Role Playing System, and for Annales Nuptiarum Kelsoni
Regis. We’re pleased to welcome back the wonderful artwork of Kathi
Spivey and Melissa Houle in this issue, as well.

“The Oak and the Swan: A Caeriessan Epithalamion” – lyrical poetry
about the great love between the two children of the founders of “Lost
Caeriesse” by Beverly Allen.

“Return Journey” by Susan Werner sends two old men, who were young
at the time of the sacking of St. Neot’s, back to the place of their
many memories.

“Deryni Night Before Christmas” by Mary Alice Kropp is an excellent
Deryni take on Clement Clark Moore’s classic Christmas poem.

“Hay is for Horses” by Katy Colby tells the story of one Mearan
widow’s reaction to her husband’s death at the hands of Donal Haldane.
How she protects her children from the King’s directives makes a
gripping story!

“Conversion of Life” by Samuel Wise is a story in two parts. In ‘A
Soldier’s Curse,’ two young men – little more than boys – meet on the
Mearan battlefield; one must consign the other to prison. When he is
much older, he seeks forgiveness from the other, who is now a priest.
In part two, ‘The Price of Faith,’ an old priest who is responsible for
the test of merasha at priestly ordinations must decide whether or not
to help Denis Arilan pass the ordeal. His actions are tempered by the
earlier part of the story.

“Balachan Math” by Sharon Henderson is a sweet and wonderful story
of Duncan McLain, at four years old, already impressing visiting
prelates. It’s also the story of his mother’s care and concern for her
Deryni son.

“Second Encounter” by Mary Alice Kropp gives us another look at the
mermaid. This time, Alaric Morgan gets to meet her and receives a
warning of piracy!

“Heart of a Healer” by C.H. Specht gives us the story of Analia,
who is good with animals and who comes to the attention of the Deryni
Duke of Corwyn as a potential Healer.

Was the title inspired by the mediaeval miracle play "Mankind" where the
baddies mock the learned style by attaching the Latin ending -ibus onto
perfectly ordinary English words:

"Corn serveth breadibus, chaff horsibus, straw firibusque.
This is as much to say, to your lewd understanding
As: the corn shal serve to bread at the next baking:
    The chaff to horse shall be good provender;
When a man is for-cold the straw may be brent."
Et ibidem infra:
"No, marry! I beschrew you! it is in spadibus!
Therefore Christs curse come on your headibus
    To send you less might."

No, I don't think so. It comes from the children's rhyme:

Hay is for horses,
Straw is for cows
Milk is for little pigs
.....
I can't remember all of the rhyme, but Katie and I discussed it,
because the rhyme is also used in a Robin of Sherwood episode...

Katuem are you here?

blessed be, Julianne
