I've never been certain that the Deryni timeline quite matches ours
numerically, has anything been said officially about it? For instance,
in the mid 1100s Morgan's ship was using a "new sail called a jib" for
tacking closer to the wind, but my sources have indicated that it was
introduced to the UK a couple of centuries later, and various other
technological and social developments don't seem to match. I regard the
Deryni universe as parellel to ours, but mostly tend to think of its
timeline as not related in any direct way (indeed, as with other
well-written books, I slip into 'now' being whenever that story is set
rather than actually correlating them). I don't remember a Deryniverse
date on the Codex (not that that would mean much either, since it must
have slippeed universes and could have slipped time as well).

Just a thought...

Katherine means it as a close, but not exact correlation to real
world time, I think Chris. The level of technology and the culture is
very similar with a few exceptions, such as the jib sail. Most of the
time though, the parallel is pretty strong.

They seemed to have had telescopes in Deryniland some time before we did.
17th Century here IIRC.

Katherine once told me that technology in the Deryni world was about 2
centuries ahead of its time (in comparison with our historical
timeline).... Cleanliness and sewage technologies were even more
advanced. Or at least not dwelled upon in the books. Wink

Irrelevant to the plot I suppose.

Katherine has mentioned that the Deryni timeline doesn't exactly
parallel ours. Someone help me out here: I think she said that due to
the Deryni presence, things in Gwynedd are somewhat ahead of our world's
schedule... Does anyone know if I have that right? Melissa, Susan
Mistress of Complications,, anyone??
