What is the title/author of this book

Does anyone know the tile of this book? Here are some details: This boy
comes back from jail and he starts working as an undertaker's
assistant. There is a murder involved. He and his old girlfriend meet
but they don't click. He later finds out that he is related to this
girl. He is reading "Thus Spoke Zarathuthra" and he is learning how to
drive. He goes out on a date with a girl, and when she asks him she
says that he hopes he doesn't think it is bad for the girl to ask...
Anyway, anyone remember name or author?

Not sure what the name of the book or author are but I think the book the
character was reading was, "Thus Spoke Zarathustra".
