I'm trying out some voice software. I didn't think it would work in my
news programme. This is quite good, though I think I am going to sound
a little stilted until I get used to it.

It has been a few years since I used this kind of system. This one is
much better. I might even be able to use it for absolutely everything.
So far I have had a conversation on the messenger, dictated an e-mail,
added a paragraph to a story, and now I'm trying it on here. This may
save my hands a lot of wear and tear.

It's going to be the first thing I try. (It worked) So did the
brackets.
It's let's couldn't won't shouldn't didn't wouldn't haven't hadn't.
It's having trouble with can't.
Maybe it doesn't like the Geordie accent.

I'm just using Dragon NaturallySpeaking version seven. A few years ago,
I used IBM's ViaVoice, but every time I had trouble with my asthma, or
even just had a cold, it affected my voice and I had to retrain the
whole thing. This got extremely tedious and I gave up on the whole
business.

If I could stop buying books on Amazon, or from my local independent
bookseller, I might have time for a lot of things. Mind you, now that
I've borrowed the spouse's comfortable office chair and can lay back and
talk to my computer all day, I may never do anything else at all.
Gargies had better watch out, I'll have my eye on them.

  - well, it takes me a day or so for my ear to readjust when
i visit big sister & her fella in pink panther country...

  - can it cope with "its", as well as "it's" ? it'd need to
have its own internal grammatical rules, as it's not just a
matter of spelling, to distinguish between homophones.

  - yes, i can quite see that. i've a couple of friends whose
accents change quite noticeably when they get excited - it'd
be a major bind having vr software deciding to turn into a
bigoted rp-purist combined voice coach, critic and censor on
them, every time they started getting animated about a topic.

It's not something I tried before. I'll have to test its programming.
yey it worked!

As long as they've stopped playing Frisbee with the roof slates. Pud
that came back the other day with a much wider grin than I'm used to, I
think he was catching them in his mouth. He is really too old for that
sort of thing.
As for the freeze-frame catch game, I think the villagers need to invest
in some kind of reinforced umbrellas, just to be on the safe side.

And now with the rain absolutely pouring down outside, and skies or dog
and dreary, I've got to go off and spend a dreary day cleaning my entire
house for the Royal visit of my amazing granddaughter.

<sympathetic draconic hug>

Have you considered simply spraying it all with a layer of plastic which
you can peel off afterwards?

That is a brilliant idea. I wonder if it would work with the dog.
All my cleaning and tidying and preparation has left me with a bad back,
grotty hair, lots of spiders bunging up the Hoover, and one very large
broken table. Said broken table is now adorning the patio. Spouse has
offered to fix it and put in our new shed as storage. I'm defeating
this plan by leaving it out in the torrential rain. Unfortunately it
seems to be real wood and rather well-made so it is not swelling up and
splitting as I had planned. However I can be devious when I want, so
I'll find a way of rendering it unfixable even by the spouse.

once it's started rotting we'll be glad to help. of course we could
dance around it and chant eldritch anti-preservation rituals if you
think that would do any good.
